The Taikata Sailing club has a proud history operating from its current site. On the 28 October 1957, six centreboard yachts on trailers were towed down a narrow gravel country road, taken off the trailers on Chapman Road, carried over the mud and put into the shallow water to have the first race between a few friends. Through the ups and downs experienced by all sailing clubs, we continue to operate and engage in friendly competition.
